Eurogas welcomes Osaka Gas UK

Osaka Gas is a major Japanese gas utility based in Osaka. It provides gas and electricity primarily to the country’s western region. The company aims to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality across its corporate group (Daigas Group) by 2050, as outlined in the Carbon Neutral Vision announced in 2021 and the Energy Transition 2030 released in 2023.

To realize this ambition, Osaka Gas promotes the conversion of fuel from coal to natural gas and pursues net-zero solutions, particularly e-methane, a synthetic gas also known as e-NG or e-natural gas. This gas can contribute to a seamless transition to a carbon-neutral future due to its compatibility with existing LNG facilities and gas infrastructure. Osaka Gas is conducting multiple e-methane studies worldwide and is developing methanation technologies, along with conducting demonstrations in Japan to promote the wider recognition and use of e-methane.

Osaka Gas UK, a 100% subsidiary of Osaka Gas, was established in 2010 to expand its business in Europe, the Middle East, and the Atlantic, focusing on traditional, renewable, and carbon-neutral energy sectors. Osaka Gas UK is concentrating on business development, asset management, and LNG trading. Its footprint in these areas includes green hydrogen production, LNG receiving terminals, gas-fired power plants, gas distribution, energy retail, and other businesses. In line with Osaka Gas’ Carbon Neutral Vision and Energy Transition 2030, Osaka Gas UK is particularly interested in developing projects that contribute to carbon neutrality.

Osaka Gas UK believes that the Eurogas platform provides opportunities to collaborate with other members who are seriously working toward carbon neutrality, and Osaka Gas UK can contribute to Eurogas and its members in various ways.
