The 21 undersigned associations represent a broad value chain that is part of the road transport sector.

We need to decarbonise the road transport sector quickly, with fast political action and a technology-open approach. The lack of technological neutrality in regulations for both light- and heavy-duty vehicles constrains the choice of viable technologies contributing to the decarbonisation of the road in line with our targets. Several complementary pathways for transport decarbonisation, including renewable and low-carbon fuels, are needed to achieve the EU objectives while minimising the costs to our society.

We therefore call for the anticipated revision of the CO2 standards regulations for vehicles to be done in a way that recognises the necessity of a technology-open approach, including the contribution of renewable and low-carbon fuels - and all fuels that are compliant with the Renewable Energy Directive - towards OEMs' CO2 reduction targets.
